Hawn Memorial Library Awarded $25,000 For HVAC Repairs📖

Last June, Hawn Memorial Library Director Laura Orvis, advocated for our local library to North Country Senate and Assembly Districts for In-Aid funding. Library staff identified issues with the current HVAC system last winter 2025, when the building needed to be closed to the public numerous times due to a propane exhaust leak, as well as the deterioration of wiring in the furnace unit. Although a mechanic was able to fix the furnace temporarily, the staff were advised the furnace is past its useful life (15-20 years) and was 26 years old. If not fixed, problems with wiring are likely to continue, as it will deteriorate more with each passing year.

Assemblyman Scott Gray — New York State Assembly, District 116, responded to Mrs. Orvis' concerns by acknowledging this specific and urgent need offering discretionary funding available to legislators from the year's State Budget. He will be awarding the library $25,000 to replace the furnace and make other necessary HVAC improvements. "Continued commitment to our community libraries is essential to support the vital services in life-long education, employment assistance, and information literacy as we connect those we serve to the digital world. Needing to close our library to make necessary repairs affects not only the families of our staff who are unexpectedly without income, but all of the members of our community who cannot have access to all the services a library has to offer. " states Mrs. Orvis.

The Village of Clayton will be assisting The Hawn Memorial Library in obtaining bids for the upcoming project. Their continued support of our community institutions is important and always appreciated.
